Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week at Lester B Pearson. Students from Sources of Strength have organized activities each day to increase mental health awareness. On Monday, students and staff will wear the colour green to signify mental health awareness, and students in grades 7 and 8 will make stress balls in their classes. On Tuesday, students will discuss which strategies they use to beat stress. As well, students in grade 9 religion classes will be practising colouring in prayer, a strategy that incorporates prayer and drawing who is being prayed for during meditative music. As well, students in grade 10 will participate in a presentation from the Shepherds of Good Hope on homelessness and the many faces of mental illness. On Thursday, Youthnet, a mental health promotion program, will present to all grade 9 and 10 students in the learning commons, and students will create paper chains listing the names of their trusted adults.
